Capitol Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers is recommending that allergy patients consider seeing one of their doctors for relief of headache resulting from allergies.
Healthline reports that headaches can be caused by common allergies, including allergic rhinitis (hay fever), food allergies and the body's histamine production in response to allergic reactions. Headaches aren’t uncommon. Research estimates that 70 to 80% of people experience headaches, and about 50% get them at least once a month. Allergies can be the source of some of those headaches.
"Sinus headaches are a referred pain caused by inflammation and blockage of a sinus cavity, which is causing those nerves to fire and transmit the pain in the patient's facial area. You want to treat the sinuses, so that headache goes away," Dr. Manish Khanna at Capitol Breathe Free Sinus & Allergy Centers said. "As a preventative for patients who get recurring sinus headaches and pressure, balloon sinuplasty is a very reasonable, viable option."
Although it’s a good idea to discuss taking any medication with your doctor, certain allergies can be addressed with preventive steps and over-the-counter medications. Healthline recommends that if headaches from allergies are severe enough to interfere with regular day-to-day activities, patients should contact a doctor for a diagnosis and possibly receive a referral to an allergist.
